About the appeal

Not being the most fit person and having a general dislike for anything that involves exercise for excessive periods of time, I decided to team up with two friends to do a 10 Km run around Regents Park! Why you may ask? Well it's for a cause I massively believe in- the medic to medic programme.

It sponsors medical students in developing countries to fund their way through medical school as many of them having started, are unable to complete their studies or afford essential equipment such as books etc. We have chosen to start in Malawi. Increasing the amount of doctors in a country where there is as few as 2 doctors per 100 000 people verses the UK's 230 doctors per 100 000 will impact the burden posed to an already struggling healthcare system.

About Medic to medic Programme

The UK has over 230 doctors per 100 000 people. Malawi has just 2 doctors per 100 000.

Despite the presence of a good medical school, Malawian medical students still drop out due to lack of money.

The Medic to Medic Programme is a new scheme in which British doctors and members of the general public sponsor trainee doctors in developing countries.

This year, we are guaranteeing the tuition fees for 15 medical students at the Malawi College of Medicine, bringing them nearer to graduation and working in their home country.
